Ambassador Subhash Gupta visited Commewijne District on 29 October, where he met with the District Commissioner and discussed avenues for enhancing cultural and educational cooperation in order to deepen India–Suriname ties through community engagement and knowledge exchange. During the visit, at Lalar Rookh Plein, the ambassador paid tribute to Baba Mai, the first Indian immigrants who arrived in Suriname in 1873, honoring their legacy and resilience. He also visited the Marienburg Memorial, a site of historical significance in the journey of indentured Hindostani in Suriname. Under the India Corner initiative, He also gifted a selection of books to the district library. A step toward celebrating shared heritage!
