The Government and people of India received with deep sorrow and sadness the news about the devastating effects of Hurricane Tomas on the friendly nation of St. Lucia last year.  India condoled the loss of lives and property suffered and expressed solidarity with the people of St. Lucia in the wake of the Hurricane.

2.Further, in response to a request from the Government of St. Lucia, India decided to make a cash donation of US$ 500,000/- towards assistance in recovery and rehabilitation following Hurricane Tomas. The transfer of this amount was completed on 7 January, 2011 when the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri handed over a cheque for the amount in New York to the Permanent Representative of St. Lucia to the United Nations, Ambassador Donatus Keith St. Aimee.
