The Embassy of India in Paramaribo celebrated the 60th Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day with the participation of large no. of ITEC alumni and Government officials and journalists at Bharat Bhavan in Paramaribo. The programme began with a lighting of the traditional lamp followed by the welcome remarks by Ambassador, Subhash Gupta. During the event, A video containing the message of the Indian Prime Minister and a documentary on ITEC was screened. ITEC alumni Mr. Rajiv Sewnath, Ms. Elisabeth Fontinie and Mr. Evyan Amatmoekrim shared their ITEC training experiences in India. This was followed by a couple of cultural performance.
- Ambassador highlighted the contributions made by over 500 ITEC- trained professionals in the national development Suriname, in areas ranging from agriculture to food security, economy to finance, engineering and technology to industry, public administration to policy making, history and culture. He underscored despite challenges from within, India always shared her resources in the true spirit of the world as one family. He also appealed to ITEC alumni and the authorities to disseminate information about ITEC in order to broadening the base of beneficiaries.
- The Chief Guest, H. E. Ambassador Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation appreciated the uniqueness of the Indian development partnership model, which takes into account the priorities and needs of the receiving state. He appealed to the ITEC alumni to apply their acquired skills for Suriname's development.
- The event was concluded by a vote of thank by Second Secretary, Mr. S. Ramji and a reception. A few photographs of the event are enclosed.
