Passion Fruits Processing Plant at Melk Centrale Paramaribo

Under the USD 1 million grant for the SME sector by supplying machinery from India, announced by our EAM during his India-COFCOR meeting in Guyana in 2023.

Both countries have reached a notion for implementing a passion fruit processing-related project in Paramaribo to bolster the local fruit farmers’ income and adding to local processing power.

Technical handover ceremony was organized on 7 May 2026 during the visit of the External Affairs of India.

 

Grant of Military Uniform and Gears

Community development & women entrepreneurship-Craft marketplace

A small grant project for community development and women's entrepreneurship by setting up a craft market were announced during the visit of the President of India in June 2018 which was handed over in August 2019.

Setting up a Vriddh Ashram—a nursing home cum day care center for Senior Citizens

The proposal for the project "Setting up a Vriddh Ashram—Nursing Home cum Day Care Center for Senior Citizens" is currently under active consideration. These 2.7 million Indian grant projects, once implemented, will benefit the senior citizens of the country by providing them with essential services and support. Under finalization.

Then first lady of India donated $10,000 to Mytyl School (special needs school) as charity in June 2018. In August 2018, the Indian government provided cash assistance of $50,000 to the government of Suriname for flood victims.

 

Rehabilitation of victims of the devastating flood

General V.K. Singh handed over a cheque of $150,000 to the Government of Suriname as humanitarian assistance for the rehabilitation of victims of the devastating flood in Suriname in 2017.

 

Grant for schoolchildren and senior citizens

In 2017, the Suriname government received grants of $29,988 for school-going children and $37,250 for annual Christmas celebrations with senior citizens.

 

Upgrading of S’Lands Hospital morgue

In 2015-16, the Ministry of External Affairs, India (MEA), sanctioned grants totaling $311,567.21 for the upgrading of the S' Lands Hospital morgue in Paramaribo.

 

Grant for Institute for Natural Resources and Engineering Studies

In 2015, the $169,400 grant by Ministry of External Affairs was also provided to the Institute for Natural Resources and Engineering Studies (NATIN) of Suriname.

 

Covid-19 assistance, lifesaving drugs, and protective gear

India provided lifesaving drugs and protective gear worth USD 100,000 to Suriname as a Covid-19 relief grant and also 50,000 doses of Covid vaccines in March 2021.

 

Cash donation

During President Murmu’s visit to Suriname in June 2023, she visited two Indian temples, Arya Diwaker Temple and Vishnu Mandir of Sanatana Dharma Mahasabha, and also made a donation of USD 25,000 to each of these two organizations.

Enhance early warning service delivery to communities of Suriname in order to build their resilience to flooding due to excess rainfall

In September 2019, PM Modi announced a $1 million grant for each CARICOM member state for community development projects under the India-UNDP Fund.

Enhance early warning service delivery to communities of Suriname in order to build their resilience to flooding due to excess rainfall” at a cost of USD .25 million has been completed and handed over on 24 March 2025.

Under the implementation phase-I delivered IT hardware with ArcGIS software, while phase-II upgraded the National Hydro-Met Network with an automatic weather station at Kwamalasamutu and a water level station at Pusugrunu.

Computers and other equipment to 10 hospitals

 

Under the India-UN SDG Fund, India handed over 10 computers and other equipment to St. Vincentius Hospital, ‘s Lands Hospital, Medical Mission, RGD, BOG/Family & Community Health, Diakonessenhuis, MMC, the HIV Programme (PMTCT Component), and the Academic Hospital at PAHO headquarters in Paramaribo.

This donation will strengthen surveillance, data management, and reporting for the elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission (EMTCT-Plus) of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B in Suriname.

First LOC of INR 50 million (about USD 1.9 million ~conversation rate of about 26INR/USD) was given in 1992, of which INR 41.9 million was utilized by Suriname. The implementation (supply of heavy road equipment) was carried out by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) in coordination with Suriname Ministry of Public works. Later during Suriname President visit to India in 2003, balance of payment was waived off.

 

Renovation of water pumping stations, setting up of steel rolling mill and for supply of fourteen heavy hydraulic excavators

USD 10.00  mn

LOC of USD 10 million was given in 2003 for renovation of water pumping stations, setting up of steel rolling mill and for supply of fourteen heavy hydraulic excavators. BEML worked with Suriname’s Defence and Agriculture Ministry in implementation of the project.

Setting up 161 kv electrical transmission line from Paranam to Paramaribo in Suriname and supply of bulldozer, diesel engine, excavators, motor grader, trucks, cartridge

The project was commenced in 2004, the purpose of the LOC was Setting up of 161 kv electrical transmission line from Paranam to Paramaribo in Suriname and supply of bulldozer, diesel engine, excavators, motor grader, trucks, cartridges and solar lanterns. A total of USD 15.9 million was approved of which USD 15.8 million was disbursed. BEML worked with Suriname’s Ministries of Public Works, Defence and Justice & Police, in the execution.

 

 

Water Supply Project.

Water Supply Project started in 2007, under which a total credit of USD 10.4 million was approved of which USD 10.07 million was disbursed. The credit was utilized for the 2nd phase of water pumping stations under Ministry of Public works which was executed by Kirloskar Brothers ltd.

 

Purchase of Coastal Communication Network from BEL and Chetak Helicopters from HAL.

The fund was disbursed for financing export of goods and services from India. The following projects commenced in 2008: Coastal equipment network for USD 2.946 million from M/s Bharat Electronics Limited in coordination with Suriname’s Ministry of Justice and Police. Purchase of 3 Chetak Helicopters for USD 7.63 million (additional USD 5.73 million amount was allocated in another LOC) was made from M/s. HAL.

 

Supply of ten crash fire tenders by BEML.

BEML carried out a LOC project of USD 4.3 million through supply of ten Crash Fire Tenders in 2009.

 

Purchase of helicopters from HAL.

USD 5.73 mn

Additional amount of USD 5.73 million (of the approved USD 5.76 mn) was utilized in 2010 towards supplementing the purchase of 3 Chetak helicopters.
