PRESS RELEASE

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and India Strengthen Health Cooperation through MoU on Indian Pharmacopoeia

In a step toward enhancing pharmaceutical standards and bilateral health collaboration, the Hon'ble Minister of Health, Wellness, Environmental Health and Energy of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, H. E. Honourable Daniel Cummings, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of India. The MoU was countersigned by H.E. Subhash Prasad Gupta, High Commissioner of India to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, on behalf of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) during the signing ceremony organized by the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on 10 July 2026.

This MoU underscores both nations' commitment to advancing public health through shared expertise and regulatory alignment—as part of India's broader commitment to CARICOM in extending health cooperation, alongside several initiatives proposed by the Hon'ble Prime Minister H.E. Shri Narendra Modi.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ recognition of the Indian Pharmacopoeia will streamline importation, quality assurance, and registration of Indian pharmaceutical products, facilitating access to affordable, high-quality generic medicines. The signing of this MoU further presents an opportunity to replicate India's Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)-like scheme in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, providing affordable medicines to the people of the country through dedicated outlets. This initiative aligns with the Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—"the world is one family"—fostering global unity in health and well-being and catering to SDG goals.
