Handing over of Indian grant project ‘Supply of Machinery for SME Sector ‘leaf vegetables and root crop processing and packaging facility, Langley Park, La Croix and Lauders’
On 10 July 2026, in a public ceremony organised by the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, High Commissioner of India, H. E. Subhash P. Gupta handed over the ‘leaf vegetables and root crop processing and packaging facility. H.E. Honourable Israel Bruce, Honourabke Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Transformation, of Saint Vincent & the Grenadines government and the High Commissioner of India jointly unveiled the commemorative plaque.
Inspired by the vision of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for the holistic development and development for all, Hon’ble External Affairs Minister of India, Excellency Dr. S. Jaishankar had the honour to announce this project during India-COFCOR Ministerial meeting in April 2023. Valued at one million US dollars, the project forms part of a wider developmental framework extended to every Caribbean nation. The advanced processing machinery and specialized infrastructure were provided under India’s flagship SEEDS Initiative-the Supply of Equipment for Efficient Development of SMEs.
The project upgrades three major marketing centers-Langley Park, La Croix, and Lauders-to collectively process at least 45,000 lbs of fresh root crops, vegetables, and fruits per day. Targeted Operations: Langley Park: Specializing in fruit ripening (up to 10 metric tons per batch), soft fruits, root crops, and vegetables, Lauders: Dedicated primarily to the processing of breadfruit; La Croix: Focused on leafy vegetables and root crops. The agro-processing machinery was supplied by government of India and the Indian implementation partner NABCONS also carried out the installation and commissioning of the facilities.
The commissioning and hand over ceremony was also attended by H.E. Honourable Shevern John, Member of Parliament for North Windward and Minister of Social Welfare and Community Empowerment, Disaster Management, and National Heritage, H.E. Mr. Rohan McDonald, Deputy Chief Agricultural Officer (Ag) and Chairperson, H.E. Mr. Marcus Richards, Chief Agricultural Officer (Ag).
The High Commissioner of India thanked the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the implementation partners for ensuring the successful completion of the project in timely manner. He said that India would continue with its commitment to South-South partnership and inclusive global growth where the benefits of prosperity were shared among the largest number of people in keeping with the true ethos of India's philosophy “Vasudaiva Kutumbakam” or the whole world is one family.
During the ceremony, the government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines recognized the assistance of India and conveyed thanks for the grant initiatives and further expressed confidence that the other ongoing initiatives will also be carried out and implemented in timely manner for the benefit of society.
