On 9 June 2026, Ambassador visited the Physics Teaching Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FWNW) at Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS). The visit focused on reviewing the project proposal to renovate and upgrade the laboratory, which will be implemented under India’s Quick Impact Project grant assistance. On the occasion of 153rd Arrival of Day of Indians in Suriname, the Embassy of India in Paramaribo, as part of its Promotion of Cultural Ties with Diaspora (PCTD) Programme and in collaboration with prominent Surinamese socio-cultural organizations notably the Cultural Union Suriname, Suriname India Women Association, Stichting Hindustani Immigration, Yuva Dal Suriname, and SCSV Premjoti organized a commemorative event on 5 June 2026 to mark the 153rd Indian Arrival Day in Suriname. On World Environment Day, the Ambassador and his spouse, along with the Embassy team, planted a sapling of Bohemian (Kachnar) at the Bharat Bhawan premises in Paramaribo under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, an inspiring initiative by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, to encourage people worldwide especially the youth to plant a tree in their mother’s name. On the occasion of 153rd Arrival of Day of Indians in Suriname, a ceremony was held at Baba-Mai Plein, graced by the Hon’ble President of the Republic of Suriname, Her Excellency Dr. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons along with the Vice President and several Cabinet Ministers, members of the Indian diaspora, and representatives of various cultural and community organizations. High Commissioner interacted with members of the diaspora, including the President of the Sindhi Association, Shri Mukesh Chugani and other prominent members, on 2 June 2026 in Bridgetown. In addition to consular matters, discussions covered the possibility of bringing an ICCR cultural troupe from India for the 60th Independence Day celebrations of Barbados and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Barbados, along with other issues of mutual interest. High Commission of India, in close collaboration with the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Indian Heritage Foundation, hosted a landmark event marking the 165th Indian Arrival Day. The memorable day began with a symbolic re-enactment. Participants dressed in vibrant, traditional Indian attire, gathered at the Young Island Dock before journeying by boat to Indian Bay retracing the very waters crossed by our ancestors. Upon landing, a mock registration was held to simulate the historical arrival conditions faced by the pioneers who stepped off the ship Travancore on 1 June 1861. We were profoundly honored by the presence of our Governor General, H.E. Sir Stanley K. John, who graced the event as our Chief Guest. View More
