On 7 November 2024, Embassy organised a DVC with Dr. The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, Minister of Health and Wellness of Barbados. High Commissioner designate highlighted the potential healthcare collaborations with India. The discussion covered a wide array of subjects, including collaboration and partnership in the pharmaceutical industry, acceptance of Indian Pharmacopeia, replication of affordable medicine schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana in the partner country through agreement, and the trade of medical machinery to improve healthcare infrastructure. Key points also included addressing labor migration and healthcare worker support, the use of mobile hospitals like the BHISHM Cube for remote areas, access to diabetes and hemodialysis machines, sharing of technology in cancer treatment and radiotherapy, and the potential for sea ambulance services to improve emergency response in island nation. Ambassador Subhash Gupta visited the Alpha Max Academy, an international school in Paramaribo on 8 November and presented some books for setting up an "India Corner" in the school library. He also addressed senior students and encouraged them to avail graduation courses in India under ICCR scholarship. Later, He garlanded the bust of Gurudev Tagore located in the school premises. On 5 November 2024, Ambassador and H.E. Albert R. Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation, in presence of H.E. Parmanand Sewdien, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries of the Republic of Suriname, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on setting up a fruit processing plant. The project is backed by the India-Caricom funding of USD 1 million to support the growth of Micro and Small Enterprises, create jobs, and enhance incomes within the Agri-processing value chain. Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Chairman of the National Assembly of Suriname, H.E. Marinus Bee on 30 October 2024. The discussion focused on various areas of collaboration, including the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on parliamentary cooperation and programs for capacity building for the Parliamentary staff. The Chairman also reflected on his visit to India earlier this year by sharing his experiences and discussion held with the top leadership. View More -
A cultural evening to celebrate Diwali was organized by the Swami Vivekanand Culture Center, Embassy of India in association with the Cultural Union of Suriname at Independence square on 30th October 2024. The event saw huge attendance of members of the Indian diaspora and the friends of India. The event commenced by the lighting of Diya by the Amb. Subhash Gupta followed by his greetings of Diwali and brief remarks highlighting salient feature of Indian culture. On 29 October 2024, High Commissioner, Subhash Gupta handed over the 1st tranche of relief material of about 10 tones to Hon'ble Frederick Stephenson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Consumer Affairs of Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, during an official handover ceremony organized in Kingstown today. The total volume of relief supplies is about 64 tones at an estimated worth of USD 1 million. This relief assistance is to mitigate the damages suffered by the people of SVG due to Hurricane Beryl and is a gesture of continued strong India-SVG friendship. View More -
On 29 October 2024, High Commissioner of India to Saint Vincent and Grenadines, resident in Paramaribo, Subash P. Gupta and Hon. Frederick Stephenson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Consumer Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding between India-SVG for a project focused on the development of a SME facility for processing of leafy and root vegetables and fruits under the India-Caricom funding worth of USD 1 million would boost SMEs as well as employment and incomes in the agri-processing sector in SVG. High Commissioner called on Dr. The Hon. Godwin Friday and other dignitaries of New Democratic Party on 26th October 2024. During the Kingstown visit, High Commissioner to SVG interacted with the members of Indian community and diaspora today at Kingstown. Earlier, the President and Secretary of Indian Heritage Foundation called on HC and briefed him about the activities of the foundation. HC also visited the National Archive of SVG in Kingston where he had a glance on the register of immigrants Indian. View More
